Elements Calgary Mental Health Centre’s Board of Directors and Officers

Board Members


Daniel Hershcovis – Chairperson

Daniel is a member of CPA Canada, obtaining his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 2011.  After articling at KPMG LLP, Daniel found his niche in cross-border taxation working as an Expatriate Tax Manager at CompassTAX LLP.  With a background in private company and not-for-profit audit, Daniel is excited to lend his expertise of financial statements and governance to the board.  Daniel joined the board in 2015.


Lisa Gerlach – Vice Chairperson

Lisa is a Senior Manager of Corporate Communications with RBC.  She holds a masters degree in Professional Communication and brings expertise in public awareness, internal engagement and organizational change management.  Lisa joined the Elements Board of Directors in 2013.


Martin Harvie – Secretary

Martin started in the marketing and communications field in 2004 and currently manages the marketing team at an Alberta based bank.  His experience in marketing brings skills around raising awareness and promotion.


Dan James –  Treasurer


Gareth Jones – Director

Gareth is currently a student at the University of Lethbridge, pursuing a Bachelors of Management degree majoring in Finance.  He is also very active on and off campus, representing the students as the Engagement Director for the Management Student Society, as well as being recently elected Student Union representative at the Calgary campus.

Gareth has been involved with Elements Calgary Mental Health Centre assisting in the Hobby Crafts program. He has found the experience very fulfilling.  “Not only am I able to give back to the community while I am volunteering, I believe I am making an impact at the same time. I feel humbled and extremely honored for this opportunity to serve as a Board member and I look forward to contributing for years to come at Elements Calgary Mental Health Centre.”


Scott Bergen – Director

Scott is a lawyer with McCarthy Tetrault LLP.  He has been practising law in Calgary since 2012, with a focus on business law, including corporate governance and regulatory compliance.  Scott received his Juris Doctor from the University of Victoria (2011) and his Bachelor of Science from the University of Calgary (2008).  During law school, Scott volunteered with a number of outreach programs aimed at providing legal information and services to the Victoria community.  Scott joined the Board in 2014.


Kevin Murray – Director

Kevin is a professional graphic designer working at a branding and communications firm in Calgary. Kevin was the designer and advisor to the Board of Directors when Elements Calgary Mental Health Centre underwent their recent name change and rebrand. He holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology Degree from the University of Calgary. Kevin is currently on parental leave, raising his daughter.

Dawn Barwitzki – Director

Dawn has been involved with Elements Calgary Mental Health Centre since May 2015.  She has really benefited from the programs especially Initiatives and is looking forward to contributing her skills to compliment the Board’s work.


Karen Hayes – Director

Karen is a self taught artist and a native Calgarian.  She became a member of the Centre in 2006 and began volunteering in a clerical position a year and a half ago.  She looks forward to, and is eager to be a part of the board of directors, giving back what has been freely given.

Anneisa Lauchlan – Executive Director

Anneisa Lauchlan has over twenty years of experience working in the mental health field and is the Executive Director for Elements Calgary Mental Health Centre. Anneisa’s lifelong interest in mental health and her passion for improving the quality of life for people with a mental illness forms the cornerstone of her commitment to the work she does with the Centre. Over the years, she has devoted herself to work within the Centres direct service component and in promoting the goals of the Centre in the community. Anneisa has served as an Advisor to the Mental Health Commission of Canada and has been very active on numerous committees and projects working in partnership with other service providers, funders and clients to increase awareness and reduce the stigma around mental illness in the Calgary community and throughout Canada.


Maria Ochitwa – Assistant Director

Maria has over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health and is the Assistant Director for Elements Calgary Mental Health Centre.  She has provided direct client service in various programs offered throughout the Centre.  In addition to her work in mental health, Maria bring years of experience from the non-profit sector providing assistance and direction in fundraising, communications, marketing and promotions.  Maria is looking forward to contributing to the ongoing success and progression of the programs and services at Elements Calgary Mental Health Centre.
