Mental Health Worker – Support & Recreation Services

Elements Calgary Mental Health Centre is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual to provide: support and counselling, therapeutic programming and recreational services for adults with a mental illness in the Support & Recreation Services program.

The successful candidate will possess a degree in Social Work (registration is an asset); excellent interpersonal skills, organizational skills and knowledge of mental illness.

FUNCTION:     The Support & Recreation Services Mental Health Worker is responsible for direct client services including: intake and assessment, counselling, crisis intervention, and related direct client care.


  • Awareness of trends, issues and needs relating to individuals with mental illnesses.
  • Direct client services: caseload management, intakes, assessment, counselling, crisis intervention, follow-up, community liaison, referrals/linkages, outreach (as resources permit) and client advocacy.
  • File documentation and maintaining accurate records, statistics and required reports.
  • Supervision shifts of in the Recreation Centre.
  • Implementation of recreation programs.
  • Supervision of volunteers involved in the Support & Recreation Services in consultation with the Co-ordinator of Volunteers.
  • Ensuring that a safe and healthy environment is provided and that all necessary regulations and standards are adhered to within the Support & Recreation Services.
  • Responsible for other duties related to the program.


  • Education/experience in social work preferred; direct experience in mental health is an asset.

 SHIFT WORK:          Includes: days, weekends and holidays.
